You rock! Followed your instructions and fixed my 2001 Silverado 3500 Dually's odometer and gear selector readout this morning. They worked intermittently for the past year and went out completely about 6 months ago. I was quoted $235 to fix my dash by a shop that told me I had a "power supply problem." What BS! Thanks a bunch for your web site and your instructions!

Thanks for the info. I have a '99 Silverado that had a gear/odometer display not working. I followed your steps and it resolved the problem and the display is now working again. I had a co-worker that is good at electronics/soldering do the soldering work. He touched up all the pins and all is well now. Thanks again, -Tony.

I have a 2003 Sierra 2500HD Diesel.
Everything came apart as easily as was said except the circuit board was held in place by the gauge needles. But, I needed to get the board off to check the solder on the connections so I just said a prayer and pulled.
Turns out the connections were all good, so I put the thing together hoping the dial needles were in the correct position.
Presto... it worked when together. So it must have been a faulty connection.
this eliminated the possibility the problem was caused by the NSBU switch.

After reading your instructions, I knew exactly where to look. I had taken apart my cluster before, but could not find the problem. My fix was slightly different, but I found the cold/broken solder joints at two of the three large 100 Ohm resistors on the gear indicator circuit board. Thanks for saving me $500!

Hi, thank you for the time you took putting this site together. I took your advice and I had the odometer working within an hour. This sure beats hitting the top of the dash to get the odometer light to come on.

I stopped by the dealer today and they wanted $450 for a new IP cluster and installation. I questioned them on the 1.5 hour labor quote because I could remove it and install a new one in about 15 minutes but they said that it would need to be reprogrammed.
I followed your fantastic instructions and completed the entire repair in about 30 minutes (including removal and installation.)

Once again, your method of soldering the broken contact worked perfectly. From heating up the soldering gun to unplugging it after the soldering, it only took about 10-12 minutes to fix my truck. Thanks very much.

Mine is also starting to go out intermittently, if I push the odometer reset button in a few times it has started to work again so far, but the next day it is out again. ( Maybe banging the panel would do the same thing, I didn't realize what the problem likely was until I read this)
I'm going to give it a whirl one of these days.
Thankfully I have some experience soldering printed circuit boards.
I'll let everyone know if it works out!
